Ace Ismaili

Ace Ismaili, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Northern Virginia

Biography

Ace started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) in 2010 under Master Leonardo Dalla. Growing up overweight and bullied, he got into bodybuilding as a form of self-improvement. Next, he decided to try both Thai Boxing and BJJ classes thanks to watching Mixed Martial Arts tournaments. After getting destroyed by practitioners half his size in his introductory BJJ class, he realized that this martial art was for him. In late 2014, he met and started training under Abmar Barbosa.
Ace has an analytical and conceptual approach to teaching. As a smaller BJJ martial artist, he understands the need for perfect technique and timing to overcome raw strength and weight. He enjoys adapting each technique and position to a person’s body type and game. This makes BJJ individually effective.
